Brightly colored objects and lights

Postby PyroJockey » 20 Apr 2015, 13:46

I caught part of the live stream the other day and it looked good, except for one thing. I thought the use of brightly colored objects, lights and explosions were excessive and distracted from gameplay. The effects tended to crowd the screen and made it too busy. The bright colors reminded me more of Forsaken than Descent. It was hard for me to make out the configurations or colors of ships under their shield glow. I may be alone in this, so I ask if there will be a user preference to control these effects at the client level?

There are times you strive for greatness, to reach lofty goals and accomplish
noble deeds. Then there’s the rest of the times you just want to blow shit up.

Actually it's true, Neptune in particular is pretty bloomy and bright on the effects side. It's the per-map post process filtering. It's something Hawk could fix (it's his map). Other than that there is a bloom switch in our option menu where you can at least turn off the corona-like effects if you don't like 'em (which makes wepaons look really dry).

Actually, I noticed it early on in some of the other gameplay
videos as well - and was kind of waiting to see if others did
too, since it would be cool to be able to have a 3-5 position
picker/slider to adjust the amount of overall visual effects.☺
Just so it wouldn't be as drastic as on or off with no effects.
