Rear View Camera

We need it! Or at least I need it. Usually in multiplayer matches my eyes are glued to the rear view I assign to the bottom left MFD and I only look up when I see movement out of the corner of my eye. I can't tell you how many times the rear view has saved me in both singleplayer and multiplayer. It needs to be good sized, like Descent 3 had a good sized rear view camera when you had the cockpit open.



Oh yeah, and just to comment on how the game looks overall, Interplay should be FRAKKING JEALOUS.

Rear cameras are on the feature list for UE4. Camera feeds in general work fine on materials - there are 3 screens on DM_Neptune for example with live feeds. The problem with a ship-based camera is that there's nowhere to pump that feed to. The HUD system is based in Flash external to the game engine and we can't take video input in-game and pump it outside into the flash file to be displayed on the HUD unfortunately. This is also what limits us from trying any missile-based camera feeds etc for the moment. But anyways, the devs here feel the same way you do - just has to wait until we port. (UE4 does not use Scaleform / Flash thankfully ... they have a whole new 3D enabled widget system called UMG which is a little flaky but better than what we got today).

Is there a way to turn around quickly, other than scrolling the mouse like a mad-man?

YES, REARVIEW CAMERA WOULD BE GOOD! I forgot to mention that lol. And Andre, try moving backwards/forwards (depends on desired direction of travel), and just turn your mouse x-axis sensitivity up. That's what I did. Just try stuff out, you'll get it.

I always found rear-view a bit of a cheat. You do have ears... ;)

I never liked using a rear-view key, but in Descent 3 I always fly with my hud's right rear-view mirror on. It's great fun to spot a sneaky enemy, and react just as they launch their attack. I can't tell you how many times I've whipped around and engage someone who supposed they had gotten the drop on me. In the absence of mirrors, however, I would like to be able to "look" behind me without swinging the whole ship around.
