Reference artwork for the game

Postby Duper » 04 May 2013, 03:18

Changed the title to make this thread universally useful - Max

You guys need to recruit this man!

THIS is amazing!

Done by http://markusvogt.deviantart.com

**edit**

Changed the "our" to "the" in the title as I am not involved in the development. ;)

Looks nice, but given he seems to be a concept artist, I wonder how long it would take to do a whole level like that.

I've watched this guy for over a year. I'm pretty sure he's a professional.

Either way, I was just blown by the detail. 8-)

yes, it coolly. It will be a pity if it isn't able to work free of charge. For example, I know the young russian composer who is capable to do ingenious soundtracks, but his work costs decent money
give to the person the purpose for the sake of which it is worth living, and he will survive in any situation

Yeah, he's a good artist, I'm just thinking he has a different focus. Rather than level design I'd say making props, robots, ships etc. would be his forte (if he worked on Descent).

And yeah, getting good artists to do voluntary work... not easy. You have to find people who first loved Descent, and then found a job as an artist...

Yeah, Ben K nailed it.

The art is pretty awesome indeed, but I'm pretty sure it will have a cost.
We need Descent fans that also happen to have artistic abilities, just as Ben K said.

I'm a DeviantArt user since years already, and in my own experience those kind of artists won't make that much of voluntary work, something that is pretty logical.

Same here! :D

And I just responded to a reply he sent me for that piece, I could ask if he might have some time in the near future - for a concept or two.

Or maybe that was his contribution to our latest efforts? :o

EDIT - Message Sent: markusvogt <with image attached>
I'm sure many artists use your work as inspiration, so I have shown some of it to the community game developers for the :devdescent-to-udk: project aka 'SOL Contingency' - a remake for the classic Descent game(an underground mining FPS) done in the UE3/UDK engine.
I'd like to ask when you have some time in the near future, if you could do more like this to further inspire the work being done on our project?

Awaiting reply! Keep your fingers crossed! :D

I'm sure some of you guys have seen this already, but maybe not?

It seems to have a bit of the Descent style in it, maybe someone knows something about it?
