Looking at the GUI, it's pretty obvious there is meant to be another missile. I have that missile. The Hydra missile.
Basically when it detonates, it has a fairly large blast radius. If it hasn't exploded after one second, a series of seeker missiles will split off, the cumulative blast radius subtracted from the base missile, leaving something a little stronger than a dumbfire. If it does explode before the second, the seekers explode with it.
It only comes in packs of one, which looks kind of similar to a pack of dumbfires attached to a larger central missile. You can only carry two at once.
